ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Kurangirutham by Uday Kumar carries a calm and sacred presence inspired by the traditional Theyyam art form. The face is finished in deep earthy orange tones, with minimal yet meaningful facial patterns and steady expressive eyes that create a serene and focused look. The simple headgear and clean lines give the sculpture a composed and ritual ready appearance. The smooth surface and careful hand painting highlight the artist’s thoughtful craftsmanship. Overall, this piece reflects ritual calm, cultural symbolism, and authentic folk artistry in a simple and graceful way.

Theyyam masks are a sacred ritual art from North Kerala, crafted using natural materials and traditional techniques passed down through generations. Rich in symbolism and bold visual expression, each mask represents deities, spirits, and ancestral legends, embodying devotion, transformation, and living folklore.
